Our History

Our Roots: Our History

Crisscross foundation was founded in Tiko- Cameroon in honour of my late father Mr. Enowmpey Jacques Besong. It began under the name Enowmpey’s Foundation, with its first community outreach visits to Bwinga- Tiko, and Tole- Buea.

The foundation was officially registered in Yaoundé, Cameroon, by Decree No: 92/455 of 23 November 1992 as Enowmpey’s Foundation. In 2011, it was renamed Crisscross Foundation to reflect its broader mission.

Over the years, the foundation expanded internationally:

2020: Established in Kasama, Zambia

2024: Extended operations to Nigeria and Kenya, focusing on girl-child education, and to Pakistan, focusing on supporting vulnerable communities

2 August 2025: Officially launched in Leicester, United Kingdom, with a focus on supporting West African female immigrants, particularly newly arrived asylum seekers and homeless women

Our History

Founder's Inspiration

My inspiration came after I read a book titled “Mother Teresa” in 1991, which was handed to me by my literature teacher when I was in secondary school.

After reading that book, I came home and told my late father how the book was interesting. I actually loved how Mother Teresa who was a Catholic non stretched out her philanthropic work to help the less- privileged, the sick, etc.

I went further and told my father how I will love to be like mother Teresa some day. As time passes by I began seeing myself doing the same work Mother Teresa.

My late father always encouraged and empowered me to study and be a voice in my community, and he always told me a woman’s place must not always end in the kitchen.I took his words so serious and even after he left this world, I kept on working on his words and this has helped me so dearly till date.
